What are the legal requirements?
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), employees are entitled to have access to their personal details held as either computerised and manual records. They may seek compensation in the courts for damage because of inaccuracy or unauthorisd disclosure. The Information Commissioner can take action to ensure compliance with the DPA. The DPA also restricts how personal data is obtained, used, stored and disclosed  - see Complying with Data Protection for more information.
