Offering Employment
Once the successful candidate is identified, and any necessary references checks completed, you can extend an offer. The offer can be made verbally but you should always follow up with a letter. The letter should include the specifics of the job, terms and conditions of employment and any pre-conditions (e.g. subject to exam success), or post-conditions (e.g. subject to a satisfactory probation period). It is vital that you clarify whether the offer is conditional or unconditional.
Remember that as soon as a job offer is accepted, a contract of employment with implied and actual legal rights exists, therefore to avoid misunderstandings, you should give new employees any written contract (sometimes also referred to as terms and conditions of employment) as soon as possible - see the section on contracts for more information
