Home working

 

Allowing employees to work from home can offer flexibility and reduce costs. Teleworking, which allows employees to work all or part of their working week away from their employers' premises,  can also increase flexibility, reduce costs and be attractive to employees with families.

 

However, employment regulations and rights are the same for home and teleworkers as for employees based in offices and other workplaces - as long as the home worker qualifies as employees, as opposed to being self-employed or working on other types of contracts – see the section When is a person an employee? for more information.

 

There are additional considerations such as ensuring health and safety at remote premises.
