Criminal Records - checks and obligations
Information about criminal convictions may be asked for if relevant to the job - eg working with children or vulnerable people. However, the rules are complex. It can be a criminal offence to employ people in certain jobs without carrying out the relevant checks. On the other hand, employers may be in breach of employment law by insisting on checks where they are not legally required.
